New Delhi: Just hours after the brand new mayor of Delhi was declared, a battle broke out between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members contained in the MCD House over the election of the members of the standing committee on Wednesday, information company ANI reported. Mayor Shelly Oberoi alleged that BJP councillors tried to assault her as she tried to conduct the standing committee election. “BJP Councillors simply tried to assault me whereas I used to be conducting the Standing Committee elections, as per Supreme Court orders! This is the extent of BJP’s Gundagardi that they’re attempting to assault a girl Mayor,” she tweeted.
According to ANI, proceedings of the House have been stalled. “Proceedings of MCD home will start after an hour,” newly elected Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi was quoted as saying by ANI. According to India Today, AAP MLAs alleged that BJP corporator Shikha Rai tried to grab the microphone from Oberoi when the House was in session.
“BJP goons attacked AAP mayor and ladies councilors with water bottles. Today the entire nation has seen that BJP is a celebration of ruffians, goons, mavalis and illiterates,” the AAP tweeted.
AAP MLA Praveen Kumar mentioned: “After dropping the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, see how the BJP councilors are doing hooliganism within the House, BJP goons are afraid of defeat within the Standing Committee elections. Whatever BJP individuals do, your corruption in MCD goes to be uncovered very quickly.”
AAP MP Sanjay Singh additionally tweeted a video of the incident.
