Social activist Anna Hazare was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Monday after falling ill with a viral infection, severe dehydration and kidney-related problems.
Hazare was taken to Bombay Hospital in a cardiac ambulance from his village, accompanied by his caretakers. He is currently in the ICU and is being treated under Dr Gautam Bhansali.

Doctors are conducting a series of tests to assess his condition. Dr Bhansali said the next steps in Hazare’s treatment would be decided once the test results are available.
Hazare became a familiar face across the country during the India Against Corruption movement in 2011. His anti-corruption campaigns and social work, however, had made him a prominent figure in Maharashtra long before the movement.
He was in the news as recently as last month when he met a group of 20 IPS probationers. Speaking to the young officers, Hazare said the country’s future depended on its youth and emphasised the importance of integrity and putting public service ahead of personal interests.
The probationers were undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. They travelled to Hazare’s native Ralegan Siddhi village in Maharashtra’s Ahilyanagar district in late July to learn about its watershed development work and the changes it brought to the rural community.
