In one more immigration fraud, 12 youths from Punjab and Haryana are stranded in Libya after journey brokers duped them on the pretext of offering them jobs in Dubai.
A youth mentioned they had been cheated by unscrupulous journey brokers in India, who charged lakhs of rupees from them.
They had been taken from India on a customer’s visa to Dubai. From Dubai, they had been taken to Egypt after which to Zwara metropolis in Libya.
The youth mentioned they had been stuck in Libya for the previous six months. Employers ill-treated them and didn’t present them enough meals, he claimed.
Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney mentioned, “This is a really critical human rights situation and requires fast intervention. I’ve taken up the difficulty with the MEA. We are in contact with the youths who want fast evacuation.”
The India Embassy in Tunisia has tweeted, “The mission has taken up the matter with the Libyan authorities by way of diplomatic channels, requesting early repatriation of the group. The mission can be in contact with the group and their relations in India.”
Earlier in March, 12 Punjabis had been rescued by the MEA from Libya. They had additionally been cheated by a journey agent in Punjab. They had been supplied jobs in non-public firms, however saved as bonded labourers.
