Following Tamil Nadu’s announcement on Monday, about a new ₹15,000 crore investment by Foxconn in the State, the Taiwanese giant on Tuesday said that “no new investments were discussed” in the said meeting between the company’s India representative and TN CM MK Stalin.
“Foxconn’s newly appointed India Representative, Robert Wu, had an exchange with Tamil Nadu CMO and his team. During the meeting, no new investments were discussed,” the electronics manufacturer said in a statement.
However, when contacted about this clarification, the Tamil Nadu government said that from their purview, this is the first official statement on the investment.
“We certainly discussed the ₹15,000 crore investment in the meeting. Foxconn may not see it as a “new” investment, but this is the first time we are announcing it,” a government statement noted.
State Industry minister TRB Rajaa took to X to say (in Tamil) that “Yesterday, Foxconn invested ₹15,000 crore in Tamil Nadu and ensured employment for 14,000 youth. This is a solid, correct, 100/100 true news without any mistakes. These are jobs that have been confirmed after almost a year of struggle.”
Earlier on Monday, Rajaa had announced on the same social media platform that Foxconn “commits ₹15,000 crore in investments and 14,000 high value jobs “ in the state. Investment promotion body Guidance Tamil Nadu added that they were also setting up a separate ‘Foxconn Desk’ for ensuring fast-track approvals and seamless support for the project.
In October 2024, the Tamil Nadu Cabinet approved a ₹13,180 crore investment proposal from Foxconn company Yuzhan Technology for setting up an assembly unit at ESR Oragadam Industrial and Logistics Park. businessline could not verify if this was the announcement referred to on Monday.
