The BMDs are succesful of intercepting incoming long-range nuclear missiles and hostile plane together with AWACS (airborne warning and management techniques).
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the profitable demonstration of the capabilities of the ship-based ballistic missile defence (BMD) system.
“The DRDO and the Indian Navy efficiently performed a maiden flight trial of sea-based endo-atmospheric interceptor missile off the coast of Odisha within the Bay of Bengal on April 21,” the ministry stated in an announcement.
It stated the DRDO has already efficiently demonstrated the capabilities of land-based BMD system to neutralise ballistic missile threats, rising from adversaries.
“The objective of the trial was to have interaction and neutralize a hostile ballistic missile risk thereby elevating India into the elite membership of nations having naval BMD functionality,” it stated.
India has been growing capabilities to intercept hostile ballistic missiles each inside and out of doors the earth’s atmospheric limits. The endo-atmospheric missiles are those that function throughout the earth’s ambiance that covers an altitude beneath 100 kilometers. The exo-atmospheric missiles are succesful of finishing missions within the upper-most area of the earth’s ambiance, in line with consultants.
The vary of the missile defence system examined on Friday is just not instantly identified.
In November, India efficiently performed the maiden flight-test of phase-II ballistic missile defence interceptor AD-1 that’s succesful of participating many differing kinds of targets.
The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for each “low exo-atmospheric” and “endo-atmospheric” interception of long-range ballistic missiles in addition to plane.
