Agartala: The BJP MP in Loksabha from East Tripura and sister of TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Friday met Union minister of health J P Nadda demanding the establishment of an AIIMS like Medical College and hospital in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (ADC).
In a letter, Debbarman stated that the people of ADC have been facing a critical gap in advanced healthcare services and medical education. Institutions like AIIMS can address the healthcare issues of the tribal areas of Tripura as well as extend the service to the people of neighbouring South Assam and Mizoram.
She apprised that the Tripura government had earlier submitted a proposal to establish a 100-bed new medical college attached to the Dhalai district hospital under a centrally sponsored scheme. The district administration has also identified two locations for the proposed medical college but the process didn’t progress.
“The ministry should prioritize and expedite the project implementation process, which would serve as a critical milestone in bridging the gap in tribal areas and providing much-needed medical services and education opportunities,” Debbarman underlined.
