Members of the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI) burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for ignoring labourers, farmers, shopkeepers, students and other sections in the recently presented Union Budget.
RMPI leader Dr Satnam Singh Ajnala said instead of giving relief to the poor in the Budget, more tax concessions have been given to corporate houses. Kulwant Singh Malunangal said in the last three years, the income of 23 corporate houses has increased four times.
Sahib Singh said the allocation for MGNREGA had gone down to Rs 86,000 crore from Rs 1.05 lakh crore. Farmer leaders said the government has decreased the subsidy on fertilisers by Rs 24,000 crore, which would increase burden on farmers. They stated that no mention of the MSP has been made in the Budget, which is a long-pending demand.
