Punjab Police on Friday stated they’ve launched 44 folks taken into preventive custody throughout a crackdown on pro-Khalistan preacher Amritpal Singh and handed them over to their household.
“In the bigger curiosity of the general public and conserving in view that kids shouldn’t endure, Punjab Police have determined to release these individuals who’ve a minimal function or have been simply following Amritpal Singh on spiritual sentiments solely,” stated Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla.
Shukla stated in an announcement that 44 folks, who have been beneath preventive custody, have been launched and handed over to their relations on Friday following a promise of fine conduct in future.
On Thursday, Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh (*44*) stated that Punjab Police would possibly release 177 folks from preventive custody.
A complete of 207 folks have been taken into custody for allegedly disturbing peace and concord. Of them, 30 have been discovered concerned in main legal actions and remaining have been beneath preventive custody, police stated.
Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann has given clear directions to police to not harass harmless folks in the course of the crackdown on Amritpal Singh and his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’, in accordance with an official assertion.
Last month, Amritpal Singh and his supporters, a few of them brandishing swords and weapons, broke by means of barricades and barged into the Ajnala police station on the outskirts of Amritsar and clashed with police for the release of one among his aides.
Last week, the Punjab Police launched a crackdown in opposition to them and Amritpal Singh has been on the run since. Punjab Police stated efforts have been on to nab the fugitive.
