Opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) MLAs in Meghalaya on Monday staged a walkout in protest towards Governor Phagu Chauhan addressing the House in Hindi.
VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit and three different occasion MLAs staged the walkout regardless of Speaker Thomas A Sangma and Chief Minister Conrad Okay Sangma intervening and explaining that the translated speech has been distributed because the Governor has ‘limitations’ studying in English.
“Sending Hindi talking Governors to us, we don’t perceive what they’re speaking so we’ll stage a walkout,” Ardent instructed the Assembly.
“We don’t need to be a part of this continuing and people who don’t really feel insulted could sit in the House. We don’t need to be a part of this,” he mentioned whereas strolling out.
The Opposition MLAs maintained that English is the official language of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The chief minister who had intervened earlier, mentioned, “The written speech has been circulated in the House as per rule. An particular person with sure limitations and he can not learn English, subsequently a written speech has been circulated. It is gloomy to see such disrespect.” The Speaker had allowed the Governor to handle in Hindi.
