Lucknow: Doctors called for heightened awareness regarding organ donation and advocated for responsible medication practices at a press conference organised by Medanta Hospital on World Kidney Day on Thursday.
They underlined the pressing need for increased public understanding of organ donation, noting that while 200 successful kidney transplants were performed in the past year, many patients continue to struggle to find suitable donors.
Dr Rakesh Kapoor, director of nephrology, said, “Low awareness about organ donation from brain-dead individuals hinders transplants. Mass awareness campaigns are crucial.” Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, a nephrologist, cautioned against the use of over-the-counter medication, highlighting the potential for kidney damage due to improper dosage.
