BHOPAL: In his first official directive since assuming office, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Dr Mohan Yadav on Wednesday issued orders to ban unauthorized use of loudspeakers and DJs at religious sites and other public places in a bid to curb excessive noise pollution.
This move aligns with the provisions outlined in the Noise Control Act, the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules of 2000, and the directives issued by the esteemed Supreme Court and High Court.
Effective immediately, all religious institutions and public venues are mandated to adhere strictly to prescribed volume limits while employing loudspeakers or similar sound amplification devices. Unauthorized and excessive usage without prior permission stands entirely prohibited.
To enforce these regulations, the state government has announced the formation of specialized flying squads across all districts. Tasked with monitoring noise pollution and unauthorized sound amplification, these squads will conduct regular and random checks at religious and public spaces employing loudspeakers. Violations will be subject to thorough investigation within a maximum period of three days, with reports promptly submitted to the relevant authorities.
The government aims to engage in dialogue and cooperation with religious leaders to ensure compliance, said officials. A comprehensive record will be maintained of non-compliant religious sites, subject to weekly review at the district level. A compliance report is slated for submission by December 31, 2023, as directed by the Home Department.
The Additional Director General of Police at CID, Police Headquarters, has been designated as the nodal officer. Tasked with overseeing continuous monitoring of noise pollution cases, the officer will regularly report instances of illegal loudspeaker and DJ usage to the government.
