A day after Union home minister Amit Shah accused Bihar government of “inflating” of Muslim and Yadav in its recently-released caste-based survey report, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and former deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi asked the state government to explain why numbers of some OBC and all upper castes have come down from last cenus in 1931. The BJP leader also demanded panchayat-wise data of Bihar caste survey report for “transparency” and “cross-verification” by anyone.

BJP Rajya Sabha MP sushil Kumar Modi told The Indian Express: “The data comaparison of 1931 Census of Bihar caste survey, which takes into account present Bihar for clarity, shows while number of Yadav has gone up from 12.7 per cent to 14.3 per cent and Muslim population from 14.6 per cent to 17.7 per cent, numbers of several castes including all four upper castes have come down”. Referring to 1931 Census report, Modi said among OBCs/EBCs, number of Kushwaha had gone down from 5 per cent to 4.2 per cent, Kurmi from 3.3 per cent to 2.9 per cent, Dhanuk from 2.2 per cent to 2.1 per cent and Kahaar from 1.8 per to 1.6 per cent. He added among upper castes, number of Brahmin had gone down from 5.5 per cent to 3.7 per cent, Rajput from 5 per cent to 3.7 per cent, Bhumihar from 3.6 per cent to 2.9 per cent and Kayasthas from 1.3 per cent to 0.6 per cent. “As there would be more comparative analysis, several castes could be among category of those with dwindling numbers. This is why we want the state government to present pancjayat-wise data for clarity and transparency. Anyone can cross-check panchayat wise data to know if the Bihar survey was fair nor not”, said the BJP Rajya Sabha MP.
On JD (U) and RJD asking the Centre to conduct nationwide survey, the BJP Rajya Aabha MP said: “RJD chief Lalu Prasad had been very much part of UPA governmemt and he should have got it conducted in 2011 general census itself. We also want to ask Congress leader Rahul Gandhi why Congress-ruled states of Chhatisgarh and Rajasthan did not conduct caste surveys. Karnataka govetnment had also conducted caste survey in 2015 at cost of Rs 200 Crore. Why its report is not yet out so far?”
Meanwhile, Bihar governmemt is likely to table its caste survey report in Bihar legislature on Tuesday. It could be followed by debate in the ongoing session.
