Sarbjit Kaur adopts Islamic name Noor, tells magistrate she converted willingly and wants to live with husband

An Indian Sikh woman, Sarbjit Kaur, has told a local court in Sheikhupura that she has embraced Islam and married a Pakistani citizen Naseer Hussain of her free will without any pressure. She expressed her desire before Judicial Magistrate Shahbaz Hassan Rana that she wishes to live with her husband.
Ahmad Hassan Pasha Advocate, a member of the Sheikhupura District Bar, represented Kaur in the court. In her statement, Kaur said, she independently decided to convert to Islam and contracted marriage with the Pakistani man and now she wants to live with her husband Naseer Hussain.
According to court records, Sarbjit Kaur adopted the Islamic name Noor after her conversion and maintained that she faced no coercion at any stage. She said the marriage took place on November 5, 2025, in Farooqabad, district Sheikhupura, with a dower amount of ten thousand rupees, which has already been paid.
Noor reaffirmed before the magistrate that she freely embraced Islam and chose to marry Nasser Hussain. Her petition, submitted before the court, reiterated that she faced no pressure and confirmed her new Islamic name. The marriage certificate lists her as a divorced woman and mother of two children.
Sarbjit Kaur arrived in Pakistan on November 4 as part of a Sikh pilgrims’ group. After coming here, she left the group and married Hussain. Her disappearance came to light when the Indian pilgrims were preparing to return on November 13 at the end of their ten-day visit.
Following reports of her disappearance, police and intelligence agencies launched a search. By Friday, information emerged that she had married a Pakistani citizen, and on Saturday she appeared before the local magistrate in Sheikhupura to record her sworn statement.
Whether the Indian woman will be repatriated to India or allowed to stay in Pakistan will be determined by the relevant law enforcement authorities. Her visa expired on November 13.
