The Punjab Vigilance Bureau registered a disproportionate assets case in opposition to a senior officer of the Excise Department on Friday, officers mentioned.
Raids are being performed to arrest the accused officer, Joint Director (GST) Babir Kumar Birdi, a resident of Lamba Pind in Jalandhar, they mentioned.
The case was registered in opposition to Birdi for amassing assets greater than his recognized sources of revenue which had been created by corruption as a authorities official, a Vigilance Bureau spokesperson mentioned in an official assertion.
From April 1, 2007, to September 11, 2009, the spokesperson mentioned, the officer spent a complete of Rs 5.12 crore whereas his precise revenue from all sources was Rs 2.08 crore — 145.40 per cent greater than his whole revenue.
During an in-depth investigation, it was established that the officer had created extra moveable and immovable assets than his precise revenue by allegedly misusing his official place, he mentioned.
“In this regard, a case underneath Section 13(1) (b) learn with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB Police Station, Jalandhar Range,” he added.
The bureau is conducting raids to arrest the accused and he will likely be arrested quickly, the spokesperson mentioned.
