New Delhi: A report by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change reveals present forest cover of the nation as per the evaluation is 7,13,789 sq km, which is 21.71 p.c of the overall geographical space of the nation. There is a rise of 1540 sq km within the forest cover of the nation as in contrast to the 2019 assesmment.
The prime 5 states when it comes to elevated forest cover are Andhra Pradesh (647 sq. km), Telangana ( 632 sq. km), Odisha (537 sq. km) and Jharkhand (110 sq. km).
According to the report titled, “India State of Forest Report 2021”, area-wise Madhya Pradesh has the biggest forest cover within the nation adopted by Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Maharashtra. In phrases of forest cover as share of whole geographical space, the highest 5 states are Mizoram (84.53%), Arunachal Pradesh (79.33%), Meghalaya (76.00%), Manipur (74.34%) and Nagaland (73.90%).
The whole forest and tree cover of the nation is 80.9 million hectare which is 24.62 p.c of the geographical space of the nation.
